Who it is for / Driving instructors

An AI receptionist for driving instructors.

You cannot answer the phone with a learner at the wheel. While You Work answers in your school’s name, takes new pupil enquiries with their licence and experience, handles cancellations, and texts you the details so you can ring back between lessons.

Founding members pay £49 now and get their first week free once their line is live. Lines go live by 31 October 2026, or a full refund.

  • Any lesson cancelled or moved inside 24 hours

The pupil is told you will confirm by text, and your cancellation notice is explained if you have set one.

What callers hear

An example call, word for word

The receptionist asks one thing at a time, checks the number back and never makes up a price. The job reaches you by text a minute after the call.

The text you get

URGENT, lesson inside 24h. Emma (pupil), 07700 900266. Cancel or move tomorrow 10am, would like Thursday afternoon. Told about 48h notice.

Receptionist: Hi, you’re through to Sarah’s Driving School. Sarah’s teaching at the moment, but I can take your details so she can ring you back between lessons. Can I take your name?

Caller: It’s Emma, I’m one of Sarah’s pupils. I need to cancel my lesson tomorrow at ten.

Receptionist: Thanks, Emma. That’s tomorrow at ten o’clock. Would you like to move it or cancel it?

Caller: Move it if I can. Thursday afternoon would be good.

Receptionist: I’ll pass that on and Sarah will confirm by text. Just so you know, Sarah asks for 48 hours’ notice, so she’ll let you know about that too. What’s the best number for her?

Caller: 07700 900 266.

Receptionist: So that’s 07700 900 266. Is that right?

Caller: Yes.

Receptionist: Thanks, Emma. Sarah will text you to confirm.

Set up

Three steps, and you keep your number

  1. Tell us about your business

A short form made for driving instructors:

    • Your school name and first name
    • Days and hours you teach
    • Your pick-up area
    • Manual, automatic or both
    • What you offer, from beginner lessons to Pass Plus
    • Your lesson price and cancellation notice, if you want callers told
  2. Switch on divert

One code on your mobile sends calls you do not answer within 20 seconds to your While You Work line. Turn it off whenever you like.

  3. Get the job by text

Every caller is greeted in your business name. You get the details a minute later, and the caller gets a text saying you will ring back.

Questions

Questions from driving instructors

What happens when a pupil cancels?

The receptionist takes the lesson date and time, asks whether they want to move it, and tells them you will confirm by text. Cancellations inside 24 hours are flagged as urgent, and your cancellation notice is explained if you have set one.

Can it take new pupil enquiries?

Yes. It finds out whether they are a new learner or a parent booking, whether they have a provisional licence, how much experience they have and where they need picking up, then tells them you will ring back between lessons.

Does it know my prices and area?

Yes. You set your lesson price, pick-up area, manual or automatic, and what you offer in the set-up form. The price is only given if you want callers told.

Can it book lessons into my diary?

Not yet. Today it takes the details and you confirm. Booking straight into your diary with a deposit is the Voice Booking and Pay module, coming for founding members.

Will pupils know it is not me?

It answers in your school’s name with a natural British voice. If someone asks, it says it is your automated assistant and carries on taking the details.

How much does it cost?

£49 a month including VAT for founding members, locked for as long as you stay, with no contract and the first week free once your line is live.
