Who it is for / Driving instructors / Lesson types and intensive courses
Beginners, nervous drivers, refresher lessons, intensive courses, motorway lessons and Pass Plus all start with a phone call. While You Work answers in your school’s name, finds out what the caller wants and where they are starting from, and sends it to you.
In the set-up form you list what you teach, for example beginner lessons, refresher lessons, intensive courses, Pass Plus, motorway lessons or test-day car hire, and whether you teach in a manual, an automatic or both. Your receptionist uses that when callers ask what you offer.
Callers wanting an intensive course usually have a date in mind. Your receptionist records that they want an intensive course, whether they hold a provisional licence, how much experience they have and any timescale they mention, so you can tell them straight away whether you can fit it in.
Someone who passed years ago and has not driven since needs a different first lesson from a new learner. Your receptionist takes their experience in their own words, so you know before you ring back. If you welcome nervous drivers, add it in the set-up form and callers who ask are told.
When a pupil rings about their test, your receptionist records that it is about a test, with any date they mention, and passes it to you. It never books or changes a DVSA test itself.
What callers hear
The receptionist asks one thing at a time and checks the number back. The details reach you by email a minute after the call, and anything urgent by text straight away.

Receptionist: Hi, you’re through to Sarah’s Driving School. Sarah is teaching at the moment, but I can take your details so she can ring you back between lessons. Calls are recorded so nothing gets missed. What’s your name?
Caller: Hi, it’s Priyanka. I passed my test years ago but I haven’t driven since, and I need to feel confident again before I start a new job in May.
Receptionist: Thanks, Priyanka. So that’s refresher lessons. When did you last drive?
Caller: About six years ago.
Receptionist: And what’s your postcode, for picking you up?
Caller: LS6, in Headingley.

Caller: Yes, that’s right.
Receptionist: Thanks, Priyanka. Sarah will ring you back between lessons.
Questions
Yes. You choose manual, automatic or both in the set-up form, and your receptionist tells callers who ask.
No. It records that the caller is asking about a test, with any date they mention, and passes it to you. It never books or changes a test with the DVSA.
It gives your lesson price if you have set one and says you will confirm packages and discounts. It never makes up a course price.
Yes, with the Voice Booking and Pay module. It offers your real free lesson times, books the lesson and texts the pupil a confirmation with your deposit link, then a reminder before the lesson. Without the module it takes the details and you confirm.
More for driving instructors: new pupil enquiries, lesson cancellations, the lost income calculator, and how it works for driving schools.
