Who it is for / Plumbers and heating engineers

An AI receptionist for plumbers and heating engineers.

You cannot answer with your arms under a sink or your head in a boiler. While You Work answers the calls you miss in your business name, finds out what the job is, where it is and how urgent it is, flags leaks and breakdowns as emergencies, and texts you the details a minute later.

Founding members pay £49 now and get their first week free once their line is live. Lines go live by 31 October 2026, or a full refund.

On every call

What your receptionist asks

  • What the job is, in the caller’s own words
  • Where it is, at least the postcode or area
  • How urgent it is, and whether water is still coming through
  • The best number to ring back, read back to check it
  • Your call-out fee, only if you have set one and they ask

Urgent jobs

Leaks and breakdowns go to the top

  • Water coming through a ceiling
  • A burst pipe
  • No heating in winter
  • No hot water
  • A gas smell
  • A caller who says it cannot wait

If a caller says they can smell gas, the receptionist tells them to open the windows, not to touch any switches, and to ring the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999 as well.

What callers hear

An example call, word for word

The receptionist asks one thing at a time, checks the number back and never makes up a price. The job reaches you by text a minute after the call.

The text you get

URGENT. Mark, 07700 900318, B13 Moseley. Boiler not working, no heating or hot water, red light flashing, code F28.

Receptionist: Hi, you’re through to Dave’s Plumbing and Heating. Dave’s out on a job at the moment, but I can take the details so he can ring you straight back. Can I take your name?

Caller: It’s Mark. Our boiler’s stopped working and we’ve got no heating or hot water.

Receptionist: Thanks, Mark. I’m sorry to hear that. Is the boiler showing any lights or an error code?

Caller: There’s a red light flashing and it says F28.

Receptionist: Thank you. With no heating or hot water I’ll mark this as urgent so Dave sees it first. What’s your postcode?

Caller: B13, in Moseley.

Receptionist: And what’s the best number for Dave to ring you on?

Caller: 07700 900 318.

Receptionist: So that’s 07700 900 318. Is that right?

Caller: Yes, that’s right.

Receptionist: Thanks, Mark. Dave will ring you back as soon as he can, and I’m sending you a text now to confirm.

Set up

Three steps, and you keep your number

  1. Tell us about your business

A short form made for plumbers:

    • Your business name and first name
    • Working hours and the area you cover
    • What you do, in plain words
    • Your call-out fee, only if you want callers told
    • Whether you take emergencies out of hours
    • Anything else callers should know
  2. Switch on divert

One code on your mobile sends calls you do not answer within 20 seconds to your While You Work line. Turn it off whenever you like.

  3. Get the job by text

Every caller is greeted in your business name. You get the details a minute later, and the caller gets a text saying you will ring back.

Questions

Questions from plumbers

Does it handle emergency call-outs?

Yes. Leaks through a ceiling, burst pipes, no heating in winter, no hot water and gas smells are flagged as urgent and texted to you straight away. You choose whether callers are told you do out-of-hours emergencies or that you will ring back in working hours.

What happens if someone smells gas?

The receptionist tells the caller to open the windows, not to touch any switches, and to ring the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999 as well, then takes their details and flags the call as urgent.

Can it tell callers I am Gas Safe registered?

Yes. Anything you put in the "anything else callers should be told" box, such as your Gas Safe number, the areas you cover or payment methods, is used on every call.

Will it quote for jobs?

No. It gives your call-out fee if you have set one and the caller asks, and says you will quote the job yourself. It never makes up a price.

Can it book jobs into my diary?

Not yet. Today it takes the details and tells the caller you will ring back. Booking straight into your diary with a deposit is the Voice Booking and Pay module, coming for founding members.

How much does it cost?

£49 a month including VAT for founding members, locked for as long as you stay, with no contract and the first week free once your line is live.
